Trenchless Pipelining Saves the Turtles and more at Severson Dells Nature Center in Rockford
The Severson Dells Nature Center in Northern Illinois is housed in a converted deer lodge, situated on a 369-acre county forest preserve. Torrential rains caused a major concern of the dam giving way and causing major flooding and damage to the properties downstream, one of which is the Severson Dells Nature Center.
American Trenchless Technologies was contacted by a homeowner who lived upstream of the Severson Dells Nature Center and had real problems with eroding earth that was damming the water to her 2.5 acre pond.
The American Trenchless team came on-site and discovered the main 70FT long 18” diameter drain pipe that was connected to the spillway was deteriorated, leaking and eroding away the earth that was damming the water to her pond. The cost to conventionally replace the main drain pipe of the spillway water dam was astronomical and would involve draining the entire 2.5 acre pond.
According to the property owner, there are 100-year-old turtles, many fish, bullfrogs, and other wildlife that live in and around the pond. The probability of losing all of the wildlife and the astronomical cost of the conventional method of repair led the property owner to seek other repair methods and luckily she found American Trenchless Technologies.
The American Trenchless crew assessed the problem, immediately mobilized their trenchless crew, lining materials, trenchless equipment, and solved the problem of losing the entire pond and the turtles in just days, instead of weeks. The property owner was able to go to sleep that night knowing that she did not have to worry about this gigantic problem anymore. If you have a drain problem, no matter how large or small, call American Trenchless first! For more information on The Severson Dells Nature Center visit www.SeversonDells.com
